"Sometimes danger is hard to see... until it’s too late.
Britt Pfeiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn't prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.
In exchange for her life, Britt agrees to guide the men off the mountain. As they set off, Britt knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there... and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.
But nothing is as it seems in the mountains, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?

Review
Short and Sweet:
Holy wow! This book grabbed me and never let me go. A thrilling, icy story that kept me breathless with suspense!
To Elaborate...
Black Ice is one of those stories that feels like it could happen to anyone. Britt, the MC, gets caught in a snow storm in the mountains miles before she reaches her vacation destination. Trapped partially up a mountain in the middle of the road, her jeep has lost traction on the slippery surface. Fearful of the potential for a car accident in the low visibility, or of running out of gas and freezing to death, Britt and her friend Korbie decided to bundle up and find shelter and safety. When they stumble upon a cabin after an hour of frigid wandering, they believe themselves to be saved. However, the nice looking men inside are actually dangerous fugitives who take the girls captive. In the dark room where Britt is kept, she makes a startling discovery that shows just how much danger they are actually in. The only hope they have is Britt's ex-boyfriend and Korbie's brother, Calvin, who is expecting them at the family cabin, Idlewilde.
Their kidnappers, Mason and Shaun decide that Britt, who unwittingly bragged that she was a geographical expert of the area, will lead them down the snowy mountain towards escape. But Britt doesn't believe that they will let her live once they are done with her... or will they? Mason doesn't seem quite as dangerous as Shaun. In fact, he seems downright sympathetic. Should she trust him, or keep holding out hope that Calvin will come to her rescue?
This book is amazing, twisty and tense! 5 Hearts!
I really need to read this one soon. Gah. I guess I have to wait until it comes out. I'm glad Becca Fitzpatrick will hopefully be able to shut up her detractors who calls her a one-trick pony. :)
ReplyDeleteI wasn't a big fan of the author's previous books but this one I keep seeing very good reviews all over the place for this one, so I feel like I must give it a try!
ReplyDeleteGreat review Sabrina!
Hell yes! This review makes me all kinds of happy! I just started this one today and was so nervous because it was one of my most anticipated reads this year.
ReplyDeleteI may have to read this one. I wasn't sure because the synopsis just didn't pique my interest for some reason, but after reading your review, I'm thinking I should read it. Great review! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteI must confess, I absolutely hated Becca Fitzpatrick's other books. I found the main character of the Hush Hush series to be really vapid, and the writing style was just... uninspired. I'm rather hesitant at this book, but it seems to be getting good reviews so maybe I'll check it out sometime! Great review, I'm glad you enjoyed it! How is Snow like Ashes?
ReplyDeleteAwesome, awesome, awesome! So happy (and relieved) to see that you enjoyed this! I'd pretty much written this author off after the Hush, Hush books -- not that I hated them, but I really disliked that she turned the trilogy into four books -- so I was skeptical about this one, to say the least. Now I'm even more excited that I added it to my Spooky TBR! :D
ReplyDeleteSo glad you loved this one! I'm really excited to get a copy soonnnnn :D
