A few days ago I was tagged by Erin @ Jump Into Books to do a post all about my TBR pile. This tag was created by Rachel @ A Perfection Called Books and Dana from Dana Square. It's a super fun way to get a peek at how we manage our TBR piles and what exactly is on them!
How do I keep track of my TBR pile?
![]() |
I wish. |
On a large scale: Goodreads. I add anything I even vaguely may be interested in reading to my 'Want to Read' shelf. I also keep track of what I am reading and participate in the GR challenge.
However, for review books I use Google calender and add/schedule books as I receive them.
It also gives me a bit more self control in NOT requesting if I see that a week or month is already crammed full of titles. Sort of. Occasionally.
Is my TBR mostly print or ebook?
I think it's split just about in the middle. I definitely have overflowing book shelf issues at home and love having a physical book best, but I use Netgalley and Edelweiss for almost all of my review book requesting.
How do I determine which book from my TBR to read next?
Generally, I read from my review schedule. So it's pretty much in approximate order of release date. However, when I get a bit ahead of schedule, I'll often read something from waaaaay down the line that I just can't wait to get to. I also take review advice into consideration in deciding what not to read. Once 3 of my trusted reviewers give it a thumbs down it's pretty much doomed and eventually bumped off my TBR pile completely.
A book that's been on my TBR list the longest?

Hmmmm..... |
Three-way tie:
I have shame.....
A book that I recently added to my TBR pile?
Again, I couldn't choose just one!
A book on my TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover:
I love everything about this cover. I love the wintery scene on the tea cup. I love the birds. I WANT that ring. The title font is perfect. It doesn't even matter what this book is actually about. I will read it.
A book on my TBR that I NEVER plan on actually reading:
I am truly, never, EVER going to read this book. I don't like Peter Pan. I don't care how good it is, or how pretty the cover is. Sure, it's on my TBR, but I'm never going to get to it.
An unpublished book on my TBR that I'm excited for:
I want this book so bad that I actually feel whiny about it. It's not faaaaairrrrr! *sob*
A book on my TBR that basically everyone has read except me:
I swear I'm going to read it soon. I WANT to. I really, really do!
A book on my TBR that everyone recommends to me:
Pretty much EVERY JLA series qualifies for 'most recommended' and I'm all about it. I read and loved Don't Look Back a LOT and I can't wait to get to these! Though she writes so many books I fear I will never catch up!
A book on my TBR that I'm dying to read:
THIS is happening soon. I've been holding off so that I can do a reread of Grave Mercy and Dark Triumph, but I don't think that's realistic and I'm tired of waiting!
The number of books on my Goodreads TBR shelf?
1,417 and counting. ;)
I now tag:
Sara @ The Hiding Spot
Jen @ YA Romantics
Rebecca @ The Library Canary
Jen & April @ The Starry-Eyed Revue
Rachel @ Paper Cuts
Joy @ Joyousreads
I hope you have as much fun as I did!
I've yet to read Graceling and Legend too! Just recently I got copies of both, but I haven't found time to read them yet!
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha. I have also had Tiger Lily on my TBR for a very long time and I don't really like Peter Pan either. Not the book, or the Disney movie or Hook... Maybe I am in denial too and should just pass the book on to someone else.
ReplyDeleteNow this is a tag that I'm glad I didn't get b/c it would just be embarrassing to answer some of this. We have similar books sitting on the pile with Tiger Lily, JLA books and Graceling along with Mortal Heart being some of them. I hope to get through my books some day by not buying new ones until the others are read, but that ship sailed long ago.
ReplyDeleteHoly moly, that is a lot of TBRs! I use Goodreads the same way, though, and then I go through my list like, "I have no memory of this book or why I added it..."
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Shatter Me! I love those books. People love that series or hate it...depending on what team you're on.
ReplyDeleteTiger Lily is such a beautiful book. I read it just because it's told from Tink's POV which I thought was awesome.
Okay, I'm going to try to do this maybe next week. But it's probably going to be super embarrassing and shameful... Although I do think you have waaay more books on your TBR than I do. I'm trying to be pickier and more realistic about what I add to my wishlist. But it's still horribly out of control. Lol
ReplyDeleteLOL, I just scheduled my post for this and tagged you. So, ignore it I guess lol. :P
ReplyDeleteJLA is awesome, I need to read her NA books, and half blood too. I Also recently added Jenna. Blacks The Gifted Dead. :) looks good and I like her writing. Isn't it gr8 having a large TBR? ;)

Your gifs are the BEST. I'm going to embarrass myself when I have answer. You know how many arcs and e-arcs I have. It's a problem. People will hate me. Ohmygod do YOU hate me!? :(
ReplyDeleteI really, really want to, but like you, it's hard to find the time!
ReplyDeleteI have plenty of books on my shelf that I like to look at, but I'm fairly certain I will never touch. Tiger Lily I KNOW I will never read. It's ridiculous. :P
ReplyDeleteLol, I've never been able to restrain myself from book buying. But every few months I get honest with myself and purge a whole bunch at once. I am honestly not even a little embarrassed. I think it's so nerdy that it has crossed over into awesome. ;)
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY do that too! I'm like 'whaaaat is THIS?'
ReplyDeleteYeah, that should be step two in the Book Addicted Anonymous group after admitting there is a problem- being honest with self that those books are not going to get read. ;)
ReplyDeleteUgh... I have no willpower. The Tink angle does sound interesting. Stahp, Nereyda!
ReplyDeleteI promise not to point and laugh. Not even a little. :P
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you did! I'm excited to see what Samantha comes up with!
ReplyDeleteWhoa... that was a long, awkward pause after your hate question......
ReplyDelete*cough*
Of course not!
Get counting, ARC hoarder.
:D
But as soon as I get rid of it, I'll NEEEEED it! :D
ReplyDeleteOh man...you are in so much trouble. Haha!
ReplyDeleteLol. Right! I need to befriend a contractor who can just start building bookshelves and entire new rooms onto my house.
ReplyDeleteOr hunt down Hermione Granger and get that spell to cram all that stuff in a bag. I would so go for that along with her time-turner necklace.
ReplyDeleteWow, great picks!! I'm really excited for An Ember in the Ashes too :) I NEED Mortal Heart soon :) I hope you enjoyed this tag, and thanks for doing it <3
ReplyDeleteRachel @ A Perfection Called Books
Bear with me, love. I'm just getting into my huge unread bloglovin' posts. So this is the first time I'm seeing this tag. No worries, though. I have a bit of time tonight. :) Also, great post!
ReplyDeleteIt was super fun! :)
ReplyDeleteLet me know when it goes up! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha I love this! I have over a thousand books on my TBR list as well, even though I use Shelfari more for it, and document read books on Goodreads of my blog. I haven't read Obsidian either, but I have it on my kindle now, so I should read it! I think my TBR list leans to ebook even though I have plenty of paperbacks too...

Oh, Sabrina...you HAVE to read All Our Yesterdays! You just have to. If you're into audiobooks -- I can't honestly remember -- you could check this one out that way...it's pretty fabulous on audio, too. I can't wait to get to Mortal Heart and I'd do unspeakable things to get my hands on a copy of An Ember in the Ashes.
